Choose You Blog

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The American Cancer Society Choose You program can help you turn what you know about breast cancer into what you DO about it.

If you’re ready to take the next step to improve your health and reduce your risk of cancer, the Choose You Commitment was built with you in mind.

This new tool allows you to ask friends for moral and financial support to help reach your goal, and can even allow you to put a financial wager on your own success (one that supports the fight against cancer, of course). Research shows that having support and financial stakes increase your chances of achieving your health goals… and we want you to succeed!’

We know it can seem impossible to think about putting yourself first – but it’s worth the effort! A recent ACS survey showed that 95 percent of women say they need to improve their health. But more than half (58 percent) admit that they put the health of others before their own.

It’s time to take care of YOU.

These next steps can help you stay well and improve your odds against breast cancer.

  • The earlier breast cancer is found, the better.  If you are 40 or older, get a mammogram and breast exam every year and report any breast changes to your doctor right away.
  • You can help reduce your breast cancer risk by working to maintain a healthy weight, being physically active on a regular basis, and limiting alcohol intake.

Take action now by making a Choose You Commitment to help reduce your breast cancer risk.

Remember, when you have the support of your friends and financial stakes on the line, you’ll be more likely to achieve your personal health goals, so get started with that in mind:
